Morning friends,
When I testified before Congress a few months before the election about the dangers of Project 2025, I said, “I fear that the horrific conduct of Donald Trump and his corrupt DOJ officials in his first term will look like a government official fixing a parking ticket for a friend as compared to what Project 2025 holds in store.”
And I predicted the following:
“If Project 2025 is implemented, there will be no need for a corrupt president to recruit DOJ officials to join his criminal endeavor, as the conspiracy will already be in place. Project 2025’s determination to extinguish the independence of the Department of Justice looks a lot like a blueprint for autocracy.”
And here we are.
Quick note: I realize I was speaking really quickly in my opening statement. I had a lot I wanted to say in the 5 minutes witnesses are given for their opening statement. I enjoyed appearing, addressing these important issues regarding the need for DOJ independence, and the democracy-busting goals of Project 2025. I especially enjoyed answering questions from the committee members, though the Republican members opted to ask me almost no questions at all.
We fight on . . .
